Yeah I didn't mention the exact source of the problem. Right click a
folder, select Security, click Add, click Advanced and here try to
search for last name. There is only one tab: Common Queries, and I can
only type name and select either Starts With or Is Exactly. Nothing
works. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry, I don't follow you at all? Are you in ADUC? There are no
folders if you are? Are you referring to OU's? Whatever it is I can't
follow your directions to test what you are trying to point out.

It depends on the display name. If set to first name last name, then it will
use the first name. However, you should be able to select in advanced to
search by last name.

Many companies usually prefer lastname, firstname. Curious why you chose
firstname lastname?

All you say is true. It is client's system and they have display name
set to first_name, last_name. That's the situation I met. I was
wondering if there was an option maybe to enable "contains" searching
mode instead of "begins with".

Maybe manually selecting the advanced tab, and specifically selecting last
name as the attribute?

But he is asking about contains. That would have to be done manually.

OK then, thanks to all for your inputs. I guess the best solution
would be transforming display names.
