Password/Confirmation to delete Network Folders/Files? [message #158947] Tue, 21 July 2009 16:33 Go to next message

I'm running server 2003 in an AD environment. Is there any way to enable
a conformation box or password box to come up when a user wants to
delete a folder or file? Or will I have to use a third party app for
this? To many people are accidentally deleting files and its becoming a
pain to restore these files. Configuring Permissions to not let anyone
delete anything won't be practical in this situation.

Hello 1_2_3_4!,

No with windows and don't know any 3rd party tool. Think you have to teach
your users more detailed about deleting files/folders. And maybe you have
to use more different folders with different permissions.

Best regards

I agree with Meinolf on education and permissions control. If this is not possible, I would suggest daily backups, and the use of Shadow Copies. If they are files being deleted on network shares/mapped drives, maybe a 3rd party "network recycle bin" maybe in order.

Honestly, IMHO, education and permissions control is my vote.

You would pretty much do that with permission on the folders. Depending
on how people are deleting folders (are they actually deleting folders
or just accidentally moving the folders into other folders in explorer)?

Cheers,
Florian

recycle bin (undelete 2009) from diskeeper, looks like it will fit my
needs.
