Dear all,

Would anyone please help me with this question?

I've 2 sites (A and B), each with a DC on it. DC on site B was turned off 4
months ago without demoted.

After turned on that DC, i ran repadmin /removelingeringobjects and change
registry to allow replication with divergent and corrupted partner.
Replication seem OK from one site but not others.

Below is my repadmin /showrepl logs

Hello Tan,

I had this also after some testing on a domain which had a DC long term disconnected.
I gave it some time and run the command again and then it starts. Install
also the support tools and use replmon, there you can also see what's going
on on the partitions. And if you got some of them back, as said before give
it some time and try again.

Alos i had created the registry key on both DCs in my case.

Best regards

If this dc was off for 4 months, it sounds like you could easily shut it
down for a few hours and turn it back on.

If this is the case then the easiest thing to do and to clear up issues.
Just demote and promote the server. This will clear up all of your problems
and give you a clean metadata on this dc.

DCPromo - Wait while it replicates being down (You might have to do a
/forceremoval) if so then clean up your metadata
Clean up Metadata - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=216498

After replication has completed and/or you have cleaned up your metadata,
run dcpromo again to repromote

Hi Paul,

Thanks for response.

However, this domain controller (turned off DC) holding schema role. (jezz,
thanks for whover did this to me)

So I'm wondering what gonna happen if I demote it with /forceremoval switch.

Many thanks,

Tan

There is still problem with other controller CN=Schema which cant be
replicated.

I've tested again for lingering objects but both domain controller shown

Hello Tan,

Before demoting you can try to transfer the Schema FSMO to another DC according
to:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324801

If this really doesn't work you have to seize the roles after the DC is disconnected
from the network. Then also never connect it back to the domain.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255504

Also if the DC is rrmoved with /forceremoval follow this article to remove
all relationships:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555846/en-us

Best regards

If you can transfer via gui do that otherwise, demote with the forceremoval
switch and then seize any roles you are missing. Follow that up with
metadata cleanup. I think Meinolf went through most if not all of this
already.

Hello Paul,

Thanks you for your post.

Finally, i've managed to allow replication from 1 DC to another DC.

Reason it's not working before is I only change registry in one DC where as
you must do on both.

Many thanks guys,

Great job
