Hello Simon,

Do you talk about NT4 domain controllers, i assume not? Since windows 2000
PDC/BDC is not longer used. All domain controllers are the same and can take
the FSMO roles or be Global catalog server, which is the difference between
them, according to some rules.

So if you like to see if they are having the same information, what i think
you mean here, use the support tools 'repadmin' from command line or 'replmon'
(GUI version) from the 2000 or 2003 installation disk, install the support\tools\suptools.msi
on the DC and they are installed with some other tools like dcdiag and netdiag,
also important to check healtness of a DC.

Basic commands are, dcdiag /v netdiag /v and repadmin /showrepl, with /?
you can see additional switches to use for more detailed information.

Best regards

With Win 2k and later there is no such thing as s BDC.
What OS are you running?
Have you checked event logs?

Since you posted to AD...

Those two roles vanished with Windows NT. You have a PDC Emulator role,
but that isn't the same thing.

So, what do you mean by backed up already? Your second DC should hold a
complete replica of the first. If you suspect there are problems you
should check the Event Logs (particularly Directory Service) and perhaps
run DCDiag on each DC.

If you're thinking of off-server backup then capturing the System State
on each DC will give you a complete copy of AD.
