Hi I would like to know how user name stays in ADUC after its creation.

I only know that the DC with RID master roles assigned blocks for SIDs.

What could have happened if I don't see the newly user account created does
not appear in Active Directory after I have waited for Global Catalog to
update the database. This assumes the hide from GAL options not turned on
for that new account and noone deleted it.

I would suspect replication problem but don't know the specifics..

Please help..

If you create a user on one DC, it should replicate to all DCs in the
domain. If you are not seeing the user account on other DCs, or on the DC
you created it, it indicates there is a replication issue, or other issues.
The GAL just holds a read-only copy of a subset of AD objects, not all
objects, so the GAL doesn't update the database, rather the GAL pulls a
pre-selected set of objects. This is all based on working and functional
DCs.

What errors do you see in the Event viewer?
How many DCs do you have?
Are any DCs multihomed (two or more NICs and/or IP addresses)?
Is the AD domain name a single label name (domain vs domain.local, etc)?
Is RRAS installed on the DC?

Please post an ipconfig /all of two of your DCs to help diagnose it, along
with your responses to the above questions.

In case or more than one domain controller, do you not see the user on
the same machine where you have created or on the other domain
controller!!

Hi Ace and Rishicool2002,

I don't have a real would problem. I'm polishing up my skills for serious
interviews.

I ran into this one interesting question posted .. that I don't have the
answer for. I need to know what happens after the new accounts were created,
then being gone.. here is the exact questions, word by word..

You've just been asked to create 20 new users and update 2 GPOs. ASAP !! You
go to the Administrative Tools, and discover they are all gone. What do you
do? What do you suspect happened??

Please help..

Hello babylon5,

This question has nothing to do with user creation in my point of view. It
sounds that the administrative tools in start, programs are deleted and you
are asked how to start the management consoles for AD UC and GPMC. This way
it sounds for me according to the question.

Best regards

That's what it sounds like to me, too, that all the Administrative Tools are
gone. Maybe the question was not phrased correctly?

If the question was meant to say the users are gone, well what I would
imagine I wold see when you open ADUC, is a red X saying it can't connect to
the domain, and everything is gone. If the users were created on say, DC2,
but when you go back to DC1 and you don't see the users in ADUC, then
replication has gone sourth. Usually DNS would be the answer for these
scenarios.

Maybe if Babylon5 can rephrase the question, we can provide a more accurate
analysis.

Thanks.

Your explaination helps me understand what to look for in real world if the
newly created account were not there on the other DC.
