We are going to be migrating an adam server from physical to virtual. We will
be changing the ip address of the ADAM server in the process. Will this have
any detramental effects on the ADAM service and any passwords contained in
the ADAM directory? Also, we were binding to the directory via LDAPSSL and an
IP address but I can't seem to replicate that behaviour via LDP. Is that
possible? Please advise...

It should not be a big deal to do this as long as you fix up the DNS entries
for the ADAM instance to point to the new IP address and the clients
accessing ADAM use the DNS name. If you are using the IP address directly
from the client, then the client configuration will need to be changed.

Typically, with SSL the certificate name is associated with the DNS name of
the server, so an SSL client will fail SSL connection if there is a mismatch
between the name supplied and the certificate name. This is what LDP will
do. It is possible for an SSL client to ignore any errors during the
verification of the certificate, so it may be the case that you had clients
that were behaving this way. That might explain why you can't get something
similar to work in LDP though. You can definitely write your own SSL code
to ignore the verification error. It is just that LDP does not provide any
UI to allow you to change the default behavior.
