I have recently had to reinstall windows using the disc that came with my
computer(windows xp sp1). Despite a couple hours of work, I am still unable
to get internet. I have trie a few different methods.

-trying to get the computer to detect the wireless internet wirelessly(didnt
seem to have that capability in any form)
-plugging in the cable connecting directly to the wall(couldnt figure out
what to do next)
-plug in the wireless internet to the wall, then connect that wireless
internet to the computer(still nothing)

for those of you who might be thinking "get sp 2 or 3" I cant do that
without internet seeing as my desktop crashed and I clearly cant connect on
my laptop

Did you simply reinstall it using the dicc, or did you restore it based on the manufacturer's instructions?

Is there a red X on the NIC icon in the systray (near the clock)? If so, did you install the NIC drivers?

Have you looked in Device Manager to see what drivers are missing?

You can easily download SP3 from another computer, burn it to CD or copy it to a thumb drive, and install it that way.

Hello,
I think you are missing NIC drivers. Get your manufacture driver CD and
install missing drivers

Hi - this is a group for Windows Server issues. Windows XP issues are best
posted down the hall in microsoft.public.windowsxp.general. I suggest you
use someone else's computer to download SP2 to a USB hard drive/thumb drive,
as well as downloading the drivers you need from the hardware manufacturers'
websites.

You might want to consider using a news client, such as Forte Agent,
Thunderbird, or even Outlook Express, rather than the pretty clunky web
interface to the newsgroups. It's a lot easier to do nearly everything that
way. You can mark messages to be watched, filter the views so you can see
replies to your posts easily, and search.

The Microsoft public news server is msnews.microsoft.com and you can
subscribe to as many groups as you like; no authentication is required.

I forgot my password and the site doesnt think that my email has an
account here.

I decided to install what I need via flash/thumb drive, how can
I go about doing that?

I have a suggestion - don't use Techarena or any web forum "mirror" of the
Microsoft Usenet groups; you won't get the best experience. Use a newsreader
client, such as Forte Agent, Thunderbird, or even Outlook Express It's a lot
easier to do nearly everything that way. You can mark messages to be
watched, filter the views so you can see replies to your posts easily, and

Download the files onto the flash drive from whatever computer you can.
Connect the flash drive. Go to device manager, find the items that aren't
working, and install the drivers in there (right-click on the ones that have
exclamation points). Or, if the device drivers are executable / installation
files, run them. And install SP2.
