I have a server with two Intel Xeon 5150 CPUs. The server has 8GB of
physical RAM. Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise SP2.

PAE is enabled. My understanding is that this should allow each application
to use up to 2GB of physical RAM. Why then do I see a couple applications
using just over 1GB of RAM, but also 1GB of virtual memory, even though
there is only 4GB of physical RAM in use in the box (i.e. there is still 4GB
of physical RAM not being used).

Why are these applications paging to disk with that much RAM available when
they have only reached half of their allotment supposedly allowed by
enabling PAE? I'm obviously misunderstanding something.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks!

Phil
