Hello, I currently have a company that is sharing a Windows 2003 Server
domain controller and would like to split their network in half. They have 2
buildings and have a bad and slow connection in the one building to the other
and would like to just have their own domain controller and leave the other
server for the other building. The question is if I introduce a new server
as a domain controller and make it a global catalog holder is there a way
that when I bring the server over to the other building I can then make it
the Primary domain controller and transfer all the roles like the PDC has
failed. Hence all I’m looking to do is save myself time so I don’t have to
disjoin all of the computers in the other building and rejoin them to a new
domain. Is this possible and if so I’m I missing anything that I should be
aware of before attempting this. Obviously I would join the new Windows
server to the domain and add the global catalog to it and give it a couple of
days to synchronize all domain services. Thanks for your time, Ryan.
