(teaching myself AD & GP on Windows 2003 server /XP client test enviro)

Don't understand this:

I tested a default domain policy with folder redirection enabled for
desktop, my documents and application data. Worked great, with everything
nicely being redirected to subfolders of the user's home-folder on the server.

Now I changed the policy back (I made a copy of the GPO object to keep it at
hand, then changed back the redirection settings in the default domain policy
to not 'not configured').

I log on with my 'network admin' account onto the server and noticed that
whenever I launch an msc from the desktop, I get a security warning.
Conclusion: desktop, my docs etc. is STILL being redirected to the server
(and the files on the desktop are therefore network files and subject to IE
security settings).

Didn't want to mess with the network admin profile at this point, so checked
it out with a test account that I had used on a desktop PC to check the
folder redirection policy. Same result: everything is still redirected (small
double arrows indicator on all files on the desktop, for example). Create
document on the desktop, appears in 'desktop' subfolder of the homefolder of
the user...

The old policy (WITH folder redirects) isn't linked anywhere anymore. I also
tested a removal of the local copy of the user profile of the testuser on the
desktop, and totally rebooting the PC and logging on again. No change:
redirection still active. A rsop of the particular user on the particular PC
claims that the redirection settings are indeed completely disabled, so all
looks right there???

Am I experiencing somekind of refresh delay or something?

Ok, so now I noticed in the application eventlog on the desktop PC, logged
under 'networkadmin', an event ID 301:

"Folder redirection application has been delayed until the next logon,
because the group policy logon optimalization is in effect"

That's all fine, but why not this message under "User1" account, and I have
been logging off and on numerous times now already without result...

Ok... I think I *may* have figured it out:

In the properties of the folder redirection policies, on the 'settings' tab,
there appears to be an option where you (have to) specify what happens to the
content of the folders when the redirection policy is removed again. By
default this option is configured that the folder remains where it was before
the policy is removed again. I should have chosen the other option "redirect
to local userprofile".

Only possiblility now will be to ENable to redirecting policies again
configured as "redirect to local userprofile" with setting option that upon
removal the data should stay where it is.

Let's see :)
