I am currently setting up my network with a single Windows Server 2008 DC.
It will run WDS with both the Transport and Deployment roles. I would like
to be able to image my wifes laptop to the WDS server. Her laptop will have
a 'C:' partition for the system and 'D:' partition for the data. It will be
running either Windows 7 (preferably) or Windows Vista with . I am looking
to be able to refresh the system from a WIM image every couple of months (or
more often if needed). The idea is to restore the 'C:' (system) partition
only and leave the 'D:' (data) partition alone. Since the product key will
only be able to be activated a limited number of times I am not sure I should
sysprep the system before capturing the images. Unfortunately a capture
image will not work with WDS unless I have run sysprep. Can I create a
non-syspreped image and use either imagex or Windows Backup and upload/copy
the image to the WDS server for deployment? If I have to run sysprep is
there a way to backup the activation information on Windows 7 (or Windows
Vista)?
