Hello,

I am trying to install NM33_x86.exe on Windows Server 200 R2 EE member
server. I have Windows Installer 4.5 installed.

The installer displays the "Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3" dialog with the
question "This will install Microsoft Network Montor 3.3 Capture and Parser
engine followed by the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3 Parsers. Do you wish to
continue?". When you select "Yes", a "Windows Installer" dialog box with
contents of the "msiexec /?" command.

I have tried this on two different hosts with the same config and downloaded
the installer multiple times to make sure the file is not corrupt. Is the
installer broken for WS 2003 R2?

David

Hi David,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that a "Windows Installer"
dialog box appears when trying to run NM33_X86.exe on the Windows Server
2003 R2 EE system. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

This problem may be caused by antivirus software or other software. Please
try to disable all other third party softwares and test again.

If the issue still occurs, let’s try to extract installer files and install
them manually:

1. Open CMD, navigate to the folder which contains NM33_X86.exe, type
"NM33_X86.exe /c", press Enter. Type C:\NM33 in the location box, click OK.

2. Open C:\NM33 folder and double-click nmsetup.vbs.

Could you install Network Monitor now? If there is any error, please let us
know the detailed error message.

Hello Mervyn,

The indiviual .msi files will install if I run them. Running nmsetup.vbs
causes problem I was seeing earlier. It Is like a parameter is wrong in
nmsetup.vbs when msiexec is invoked.

When nmsetup.vbs runs, I see a dialog box titled "windows Installer" with
this text output (abridged, only the first few lines):
[Start Text]
Windows ® Installer. V 4.5.6001.22159

msiexec /Option <Required Parameter> [Optional Parameter]
.....
[Stop Text]

It is the same ouput you see if you execute "msiexec /?"

Regards,
David

Hi,

Thank you for update. I understand you can install Network Monitor 3.3
manually but msiexec still cannot work properly.

If you would like to find the root cause of this problem, let's try the
steps below. The problem with nmsetup.vbs may be caused by corrupt files or
conflicts of software.

1. Please try to download a new NM33_X86.exe and extract it, compare
nmsetup.vbs to see if there is any difference.
2. If the new file is the same with old one and they cannot work, let's try
to repair the script engine. Please refer to the article. You can run
Fixit tool in any of the listed KB to register Windows Script Engine.

Register Windows Script Engine Fix it Live!
http://blogs.technet.com/fixit4me/archive/2009/01/30/registe r-windows-script
-engine-fix-it-live.aspx

If the problem still occurs, please test in Clean Boot.
=========================
a. Click Start, type "msconfig", press Enter.
b. Switch to Services tab, click Hide all Microsoft services, click Disable
all.
c. Switch to Startup tab, click Disable All. Click OK to restart the
server.

Is there any progress?
