Hi,

I am the IT manager at a small manufacturing company. We are looking
at virtualizing about 8 servers using Dell hardware and Hyper-V. I
have some questions related to the physical and logical networking
layout, that I'm hoping maybe you can help me find answers to.

This virtualized environment would include a Dell PS4000E (iSCSI) SAN
with dual controllers (2 ports per controller), and two physical
nodes, both Dell R805 servers, each with 6 network ports, plus one
iDRAC port. I plan to cluster the two nodes. This setup also
includes two 24 port gigabit layer 2/3 ethernet switches, with VLAN
and Jumbo Frame compatibility.

The idea is to reduce Single Points of Failure.

Node 1 physical NICs:
1: HostOnly, VLAN 40, to Switch1
2: iSCSI1(teamed?), VLAN 11, to Switch1
3: iSCSI2(teamed?), VLAN 11, to Switch2
4. VM(teamed), VLAN 20, to Switch1
5. VM(teamed), VLAN 20, to Switch2
6. Heartbeat, VLAN 30, to Switch1

Node 2 physical NICs:
1: HostOnly, VLAN 40, to Switch2
2: iSCSI1(teamed?), VLAN 10, to Switch1
3: iSCSI2(teamed?), VLAN 10, to Switch2
4. VM(teamed), VLAN 20, to Switch1
5. VM(teamed), VLAN 20, to Switch2
6. Heartbeat, VLAN 30, to Switch2

Other connections
Two physical connections, one from each switch, out to my main LAN
Four physical connections, two from each switch, to the SAN.

So here are my specific questions:
1. As presented, does this work? I'm diving into the deep end of
VLANs and relatively complicated networking.
2. Is there a better way of doing this?

Thanks!
