We are planning to introduce Windows 7 in our environment and have been
tasked to work on a plan. I would like to know what tests need to be
perfromed from an Active Directory perspective.

Hello Kent,

From AD itself there is no real change as with earlier OS. If you change
to Windows server 2008 or 2008 R2 as Domain controller, then you will have
changes/new functionalities within AD.

What you of course will have are new Group policies and a new feature called
Group policy preferences, first introiduced with Windows server 2008. For
GPOs you need a Windows 7 machine with RSAT installed to configure GPOs.

Also you have new user profiles as it changes from C:\documents and settings
to c:\users, see here about:

Meinolf provided a couple of good advice. From an overall aspect, I'd
check the following (not necessarily AD specific):
- installation of LOB applications
- installation of office applications
- domain join
- compliance to current Group Policy settings
- need for new Group Policy creation (due to Win7 specific behavior/new
features?)
- seperate Group Policies for Windows Firewall/Profile settings
- special maintenance plan?

Cheers,
Florian

Check your users apps, it will work with AD that won't be an issue. More
likely someone has some old Legacy application that they can't live without.
We have all kinds of that garbage installed and it just sucks the life out
of our support staff supporting it.

My only problem so far has been with printing to TS printers. Part of
the problem is that my workstation is doing a local logon. Also, I'm
sure that, in one case, there just aren't W7 compatible drivers. That is
my single worry so far...
