Have an old DC windows 2003 server with limited disk space.
Need more disk space.

The file c:\$Extend\$UsnJrnl:$J:$DATA allocates 11GB and have 1000+
fragments.

Have seen that is possible to delete this by : fsutil usn
deletejournal /d c:

Is this file really needed for something?
Harmless to delete this without getting problems?

Jordan

Hello Jordan,

Should be fine, see also the remarks/Caution in:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc788042(WS.10).aspx

Do NOT forget to make a backup BEFORE starting in case something fails.

Best regards

You can do this but the journal is constantly in use, so if this machine is
hard hit during the day I would do after hours. As a matter of fact I would
do the following:

Take a complete backup
Start the rest after hours
Reboot the dc (Disconnect it from the network on start up)
Run the journal cleanup
Reboot the dc (Reconnect to the network on start up)
