Hello Sameer,

According to:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731537(WS.10).aspx

it is is still implemented in Windows server 2008 R2. It will not be in the
future versions. Also in AD sites and services from Windows server 2008 R2
SMTP is still listed and to configure. In the article above it is not recommended
to use it because of the future plaaning, but until now you can still use it.

Or did i understand you wrong?

Best regards

This is taken from "Upgrading Active Directory Domains to Windows Server
2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 AD DS Domains"

Some functionality that was available in previous versions of Windows Server
is deprecated in Windows Server 2008. For example, SMTP Replication is
removed by default. For more information, see article 947057 in the
Microsoft Knowledge base (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=164416).
The Browser Service is disabled by default in Windows Server 2008 and
Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controllers.

Hello Sameer,

Also that article and the link to KB 947057 show how to enable SMTP replication.
It has changed a bit to the previous versions but works.

Hello Sameer,

Also see:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771251.aspx

" In Windows Server 2008 R2, the SMTP component of Intersite Messaging is
optional. You must add it before you can use SMTP for replication. "

Hi
Why use SMTP for AD replication? hat solution was little bit valid in 2000 DC days, nowadays I don't see the need to use SMTP along with the known limitations.

I hope that the information above helps you.
Have a Nice day.
