Hi
Assuming small organization, I suggest to use the client (MS Outlook or
other) to get and send mail. If you're looking for an enterprise solution
you may want to have a look at MS Exchange Server. Keep in mind that setting
up a mail server may not be hard, but maintaining can be, some times, a
challenge.
After selecting the correct product (Here's a list of possible mail
solutions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mail_servers), you must get
familiar with it and plan the deployment that may change from product to
product.

I'm sorry to not answer to your question, but before getting into details
about what should you do to implement/install a given software solution, you
must know what you really want, and what serves your company/personal needs.

I hope that the information above helps you.
Have a Nice day.

As Meinolf implied, this is really not an Active Directory question.
However, let's try to address it for you, but we'll need *more* info than
you provided to specifically address your question, and/or direct you to the
right group for a specific response. Questions below...

Is this for personal reasons or for your company?

As Jorge mentioned, setting up Exchange can be rather easy, however
maintenance can be challenging. Also, and a big also, you must have Active
Directory already in place before Exchange can be setup.

Do you have Active Directory currently installed in your infrastructure? If
so, how many users do you have, number of servers, and locations?

You also need an Internet line with a static IP.

You said you are on Yahoo. If this is for your company, are all your company
users currently using Yahoo for corporate email?
